| | | | National History Day History Day is a national competition that Highwood Hills has participated in for eight years. Students are in the research phase right now and are learning everything they can about their topic. They also learn many research skills like note taking and using primary sources of information. They keep an annotated bibliography and arrange interviews. In the second phase students put together an exhibition of their research. The projects were due on March 3 and parents were invited to view the exhibits during spring conferences. Judges select the exhibits that went to the regional competition at Saint Paul College on March 18. Twelve students participated in this event. They were: Ayishara Ariyachat adn Iridian Galarza-Quiroz, "The Grimke Sister;" Isaac Johnson, "Cesar Chavez;" Quentin Bordeaux, "Wounded Massacre;" Hussein Gabdille, "The Second Voyage of Christopher Columbus;" Kayla Hicks, "Keeping Faith in a World of Darkness;" Temesgen and Ryan Chang, "Why?" Angelique Gordon and Paola Maldonado, Harriett Tubman: Escaping From Slavery;" and Abdirizak Ahmed and Brendon Garza, "Anne Frank: Her LIfe in Hiding." At the competition students were questioned by several judges as they explained their research, process paper and exhibit. They were nervous but they looked clam and confident. Congratulations to all our hardworking sixth graders.
