YES WE CAN has been our motto this year. The students have been in tune to the recent presidential election, so we have ridden the wave of excitement into the gymnasium. Last year the students ran the number of miles from St Paul to Disneyland. This year the students suggested running to Washington, DC to meet the president and his family. We started logging miles in January. In two weeks of running a designated number of minutes per class, 200 miles, equivilant to 5,600 laps in the gymnasium, | | Students | were accomplished. We will continue our journey of 1,100 miles. This school project is preparing the students for the mile run fitness assessment. Out of the mouth of Babes: After the first grade class ran 10 minutes without walking, a student made a comment to his classroom teacher, "It was hard, but I didn't quit". We immediately jumped on the teachable moment and encouraged the students to have that attitude in everything that's challenging to them. The basketball season is upon us. The 6th grade students are preparing for another huge challenge. The 6th grade vs the Highwood Hills'Staff. A date will be set later in February. I invite any parent, who would like to play against their child during the game, to please contact Lynae Larson at 651-293-8875. January 29th is Highwood Hills' Open House, 6:30-7:30. One stop for the families will be the gymnasium. The primary students can show off their rope jumping skills. The intermediate can teach their parents how to do cupstacking.
