The Three Little Pigs
September opened with a bit of magic this year. We learned about the genre called "Fairytales". We learned about the features of a fairytale and what it might have. Features such as magic, good and evil, repeated lines, beginnings of "Once upon a time...", endings of "And they lived happily ever after...", the number 3, settings in a castle or woods, etc. We've had fun reading some of the old time favorites like "The Three Little Pigs" but then read some neat other versions like "The Three Little Javelinas" and "The True Story of the Three Pigs". We have learned a lot. And we had fun doing fairytale readers' theaters everyday. Wow...fairytales are great! We also got to sing some fun

tunes like "Do You Believe in Magic?"... Reading in October has been very informative. We moved on to reading some great non-fiction and learning about our bodies. We started by asking "Burning Questions" and learning how to do mini research as we looked for the answers to our "Burning Questions". Some of the questions we have asked are...How do bones heal after they have been broken? Why do your eyes dilate? Why do my teeth hurt sometimes? Do the bones in my head have cracks? How long is my intestine? Are there bones in my ear? Why does my heart beat so loud after I run fast? How many bones are in my foot? Can people really have a sweet tooth? Along with learning about our

bodies, we have been learning some famous idioms people use in English. We now know what it means to have a sweet tooth, stick your foot in your mouth, be nosey, brainstorm, and have a big mouth. These sayings are fun to use now that we understand their inferred meaning. In November, we will begin to study the water cycle and its importance to the earth. We will be conducting some science experiments while reading about the earth's water resources. We will be locating bodies of water in and around the United States. Later in the year, we will be visiting the Mill City Museum in Mpls. Do you know the stages of the water cycle? Come ask the student's in Mrs. Benedett's room.
