Welcome to the Enrichment Room at Highwood Hills Elementary School for the 2007 - 2008 school year. Many exciting and challenging learning opportunities are available. The Enrichment Room focuses on developing students' talents, interests, and creativity. Students can participate on a regular scheduled basis or as part of a special interest group. Students may also work on independent investigations.
Nagliari Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT)
The NNAT was administered the week of January 8. All kindergartners and second graders at Highwood Hills were tested. Also tested were nominated students in grades 1, 3, 4, and 5. Parents will receive the results in the mail. This test is offered to identify students for elementary gifted and talented programs, including eligibility for Capitol Hill Magnet School.
Highwood U
Highwood U took place in December. The course catalog had many exciting selections including hula dancing, rocketry, and crafty powerpoint. In fact, click on the link below to find one of the powerpoint projects. Students love to be able to select a class of their choice. It was a wonderful learning experience.
Destination Imagination
Destination Imagination is a creative problem solving competition. Highwood Hills fielded three Destination Imagination teams this year. Each of the teams presented their challenges at Harding High School on March 1, 2008. Congratulations to the team of John Madigan, Austin Olin, Nadia Abdulrazak, Anab Omar, and Hamdi Salat. They were the recipients of the prestigious DaVinci Award for their demonstration of outstanding creativity.
