Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year. This year our class will
be multi-graded with students in grades 4, 5, and 6. The other
multi-grade classes are with Mrs. Aro and Mrs. Hendrix.
Everyday we start our school day with a whole grouip morning
meeting. Here we welcome each other, share what is
happening in our lives, an interactive game and reading the daily chart.
Students will be switching classes for math. Students that are
in 6th grade will be coming to my classroom for instruction. Math
instruction is for 90 minutes daily.
Children also participate in flexible groups based on their specific
needs. This small group instruction is paramount to your child
being a successful learner.
During reading time, students read independently at their reading
level, respond to literature, and participate in literacy
stations. Students receive small group Guided Reading instruction
that teaches the skills necessary to be a better reader.
Students will be participating in Writer's Workshop. Everyday
studnets will spend about one hour working on various writing
projects. Some of the writing projects will include Memoir,
Literary Non-Fiction, Biography, as well as other genres.
Obviously students are expected to be respectful and well
behaved. Children having trouble will be given time to reflect on
their behavior. If problems reoccur,
you will be notified and your child maybe suspended or dismissed for the day.
Again welcome to an exciting and new school year. I am looking
forward to working with you and your child. By working
together your child will be very successful.
