Highwood Hills is proud to offer three full-day kindergarten classes this year. Our three talented teachers, Mrs. Parenteau, Mrs. Fournelle and Mrs. Birchland, have years of experience working with these children. Children learn basic skills, basic academics, and are introduced to that thing we call "school." The added benefit of teaching the same students for the entire day means that Highwood Hills is building a strong foundation from which these children can build on their educational successes. Kindergarteners at Highwood Hills also have the benefit of three specialist teachers, which they see every week. They receive direct instruction in Social Skills, Science, and Physical Education, just like the older students at school. This also provides a strong foundation from which to grow. English Language Learners Because of the amazingly diverse student population at our school, Highwood Hills offers specialized instruction to those students who have limited experience with the English language. Smaller class sizes and direct instruction in language-building techniques allow these students to flourish in school, which is challenging enough even when you have a lot of experience with the language.
